Importance of family support and adherence to the treatment of patients with tuberculosis

The family plays an essential role in determining the favorable or unfavorable process of the patient's recovery. The objective of the research was to establish the relationship between family support and adherence to treatment in people affected by tuberculosis at the Manuel Ángel Higa Arakaki Hospital in Satipo. The type of study was descriptive, basic and relational in design. The study sample consisted of a total of 38 people affected by tuberculosis receiving treatment in the hospital. In addition, the survey technique was applied for data collection and the instrument was the questionnaire. Regarding the results, it was evident that 44.74% of people affected by tuberculosis have moderately favorable family support, 36.84% have unfavorable family support and 18.42% have favorable family support; Meanwhile, 47.37% have medium adherence, 28.95% show low adherence and 23.68% indicate high adherence. In conclusion, it was maintained that there is a moderate direct relationship between family support and adherence to treatment in people affected by tuberculosis at the Manuel Ángel Higa Arakaki Hospital in Satipo - 2017.
