Synopsis

Increasing urbanization and the increase in the vehicle fleet in recent decades have posed significant challenges for traffic management in cities, turning road intersections into critical points of congestion, delays and accidents. The efficient design of road intersections on urban roads is crucial to ensure traffic fluidity, road safety and universal accessibility. Understanding the principles of geometric design, the application of international and national norms and standards, and the consideration of factors such as traffic volume and composition, design speed and characteristics of the urban environment are essential for the creation of intersections that respond to the needs of sustainable urban mobility. This book comprehensively addresses the design of road intersections on urban roads, analyzing the different types of intersections, design considerations and methodologies to evaluate their performance.
