Synopsis

The research presented in this book focuses on the in-depth study of P. ostreatus cultivation using rice husk as a substrate, with the aim of optimizing single-cell protein production and evaluating its potential as a sustainable alternative for agro-industrial waste management. While there are previous studies on the cultivation of P. ostreatus on different lignocellulosic substrates, including cereal straw, sugarcane bagasse and sawdust, rice husk, despite its abundance and low cost, has been relatively less explored. This research seeks to fill this knowledge gap, analyzing the influence of factors such as temperature, pH and substrate pretreatment on the growth and productivity of the fungus. In addition, the chemical composition and nutritional value of the fungus grown on rice husk are examined, evaluating its potential as a source of protein for human and animal feed.
