Synopsis

This book, "COLEOPTEROS DRYOPHTHORINAE AND MUSACEA CROPS," presents a detailed analysis of the impact of Curculionidae beetles, known as weevils, on plantain and banana crops in the department of Casanare, Colombia. Through rigorous research, the authors address the main species responsible for agricultural damage, including Cosmopolites sordidus, Metamasius hemipterus sericeus, Metamasius hebetatus, and Rhynchophorus palmarum. The authors contextualize the problem within the national agricultural landscape, exposing how these insects affect productivity through the formation of internal galleries in rhizomes and pseudostems, which not only weakens plants but also makes them susceptible to diseases and significantly reduces the harvest. Based on previous studies and scientific references, the book examines the magnitude of the problem and the need to develop effective management and control strategies. It is an essential work for researchers, agronomists, producers, and all those interested in plant health and crop sustainability in Colombia and Latin America.
