Agribusiness, AniseSynopsis
The district of Curahuasi, located in Apurímac - Peru, is one of the largest producers of anise. Exports of the cultivation of this plant to countries such as Spain and the United States, as well as sales in the national market, have allowed the inhabitants of this district to develop sustainably and economically. In this way, the cultivation of anise in the district of Curahuasi, known as the world capital of anise, presents favorable and potential agroecological, economic and social conditions, which contribute significantly to improving the quality of life of producers in the region. In the aspect of production and marketing, most farmers work on their own, so there are various levels related to the product that are used by the intermediary to pay low prices.
In relation to the available technology, it fluctuates between a medium and low level of application. In terms of property, most are smallholdings and a large number of producers resort to loans from financial entities such as municipal savings banks and cooperatives to finance their agricultural campaigns.
On the other hand, currently, the quality and variety of this crop is highly appreciated, both for its direct and industrial consumption, where the Anís Najar (characteristic liquor of the province of Arequipa) is its highest exponent.
All these aspects have motivated to consider the cultivation of anise in the district of Curahuasi as a research topic and, in this way, to be able to contribute to the economic and social development of the area through the promotion of the productive chain. For this reason, in order to overcome the weaknesses and problems detected, a set of basic guidelines and an initial plan are proposed for the formation of the productive chain of this crop in the aforementioned district.
